Embark on a journey with the VINO MUNDO private collection

Winegrowing in Chile is a legacy of Spanish colonization. With the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes mountain range to the east, Chile has many assets that make it a country of exceptional terroirs: fertile, well-located land, water, a favorable climate, and a workforce skilled in viticulture.

Chilean viticulture dates back to the time of the conquistadors, who brought grapevines with them from Europe in themid-16th century. The country was spared the devastation of phylloxera and still has ungrafted pre-phylloxera vines, introduced in the mid-19th century by Don Luis Cousiño.

Most wine production takes place inthe Central Valley, a region bordered by two mountain ranges and crisscrossed by numerous rivers, such asthe Aconcagua, theMaipo, the Cachapoal, the Tinguiririca, the Teno, the Lontué, the Loncomilla, and the Maule, and stretching 80 km north and 350 km south of the capital, Santiago.

Discover Chilean wine tourism on a wine-tasting getaway from the Casablanca Valley to the Santa Cruz Valley.

Whether you’re a casual wine lover or a connoisseur, discover the secrets behind Chile’s finest white and red wines: blending, biodynamic winemaking, certified organic wines, and, of course, the iconic Carménère.

This 4-day getaway is the perfect addition to a customized trip to Chile, as the Casablanca and Santa Cruz valleys are located in the central region, just a few kilometers from Santiago. It’s a wonderful way to broaden your horizons with new flavors and explore Chile’s wine heritage.

Carménère, a Bordeaux grape variety that had disappeared during the phylloxera epidemic, was imported (and saved) by the Chilean aristocrat Silvestre Ochagavia. Long confused with Chilean Merlot, it was thanks to the work of oenologist Claude Valat that this grape variety was recognized as “Carménère” and thus became the emblem of Chilean wines.
